I sincerely never heard of the Shang-Chi story in Marvel comics but I did stop being an avid reader in 1986. The wiki says first appearance December 1973. "The character was conceived in late 1972. Marvel had wished to acquire the rights to adapt the Kung Fu television program, but were denied permission by the show's owner, Warner Communications, owner of Marvel's primary rival, DC Comics.[2] Instead, Marvel acquired the comic book rights to Sax Rohmer's pulp villain Dr. Fu Manchu.[3] They developed Shang-Chi, a master of kung fu, who was introduced as a previously unknown son of Fu Manchu." HUH! It lists he was in several comics but I just kept missing this guy, it would seem. Heck, I just wanna see it for Awkwafina.
