Yes, the lack of air-condition is the problem. You can deal with it if it's only two to three days of extreme heat, especially if you know that it will be over the day after that (as it happened so far twice this summer). But if it will ever last for a week or even longer, then I don't know what we will do.
I too still spend large amounts of time preparing the trips, and just as much afterwards sorting and editing all the pictures that I took in order to make sure that I remember what I saw. That work has also the additional benefit that it keeps me from spending too much time reading the news. :)
