Desperate to get back to her Manhattan circle of so-called friends, she must finally deal with her family, as well as her mother's crazy new boyfriend (Matt Dillon). Directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (Extra Man American Splendor, The Nanny Diaries).
Should be fun. Definitely nice to see Matt Dillon again.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Also part of the cast are Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins, Jr.

Now, with the nation's government falling into chaos and time running out, it's up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country. Also part of the cast are Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins and James Woods. Directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow).

A bit of an odd genre mix that apparently left a lot of festival reviewers confused.
