The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby HD720p 45MB
Romantic drama about an enviable couple (Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy) seemingly so in love until their marriage is shaken to the core when life throws them a devastating curve. Now this New York couple must try to understand each other as they cope with loss and attempt to reclaim the life and love they once had. Viola Davis, Bill Hader, William Hurt, Isabelle Huppert and Ciarán Hinds are also part of the cast.
Here's the interesting thing, the movie premiered last autumn in Toronto in two 90 minute parts called "Him" and "Her" telling the same story from the different perspectives. For the screening in Cannes it was edited into one two-hour movie called "Them" that combines the two versions. Which versions will be released will probably differ from country to country. But it's likely that all of them at one point will become available on demand or DVD.
Child of God HD720p 25MB
Intense and violent thriller drama set in the 1960s Tennessee, based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road). Lester Ballard (Scott Haze, spitting and scratching at himself) is an abandoned soul, unable to fit into the established social order. As he increasingly withdraws into his own mind, he turns to violence and, ultimately, necrophilic relationships, looking for solace in a world that continually rejects him. The town sheriff (Tim Blake Nelson), both sympathetic to and fearful of the man, slowly closes the net around him - but a mob of townfolk have ideas of their own. Directed by James Franco, who also has a small supporting role.
I'm suffering from a strong case of Franco fatigue, but this looks like one of his more watchable projects. Also, an earlier festival trailer: HD480p 22MB.
Hector and the Search for Happiness HD720p 21MB
Hector (Simon Pegg) is a quirky psychiatrist who has become increasingly tired of his humdrum life. As he tells his girlfriend (Rosamund Pike), he feels like a fraud: he hasn't really tasted life, and yet he's offering advice to patients who are just not getting any happier. So he decides to break out of his deluded and routine driven life. Armed with buckets of courage and child-like curiosity, he embarks on a global quest in hopes of uncovering the elusive secret formula for true happiness. Also part of the cast are, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Toni Collette, Jean Reno and, the horror for German viewers, Veronica Ferres. Directed by Peter Chelsom (Serendipity, Funny Bones, Hannah Montana: The Movie).
While it says to be based on a novel by François Lelord, it looks like a copy of the recent remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Life Itself HD720p 56MB
Documentary that recounts the inspiring, entertaining and colorful life of world-renowned film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert - a story that is by turns personal, funny, moving and transcendent. Based on his bestselling memoir of the same name. Directed Steve James (Hoop Dreams).
An article about the doc.
The Prince US HD720p 29MB Prod HD720p 70MB
Another one of those crime/revenge B-movies. This one centers on a family man (Jason Patric) who turns out to be a tatted-out retired mob enforcer and must travel across the country to find his college-aged daughter who has gone missing. Also part of the cast are regulars like John Cusack and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and also Bruce Willis and Rain to attract some Asian viewers. Nicolas Cage was apparently busy.
You can chose between the official US trailer and a longer one from the production company.
