Pete's Dragon HD720p 32MB HD1080p 84MB
Pretty effective teaser for the "reimagining of Disney's cherished family film". For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales ... until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Oona Laurence are also part of the cast. Interestingly, directed by David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints).
Looks like 2016 will be the year in which Disney really wants to find out if audiences want to see live-action versions of beloved (at least partially) animated movies about a kid in the wilderness. Looks so far much more charming than the scary looking Jungle Book. I probably also like it better because I barely remember the original of this one.
Born to be Blue HD720p 21MB
Musical drama loosely based on the life of legendary trumpeter and singer Chet Baker (Ethan Hawke). It reimagines Baker's life as a mixture of fact and fiction, picking up his story late in his career when, after years of heroin abuse, financial loss, and public disgrace, he attempts to stage a comeback. Starring in a film about his own infamous life, Baker strikes up a passionate romance on and off the set with Jane (Carmen Ejogo), the actress playing one of his lovers, but his hopes for a bright future are suddenly darkened when he suffers a brutal beating in a parking lot after a gig.
I'm a little torn. I often find biopics difficult. The ones that slavishly try to retell someone's life story rarely make for compelling viewing. Others take a lot of liberties to streamline the story which then opens the door for controversy. Making things up is obviously problematic too, but at least they are very open about it. And festival reviews indicate that the movie is worth a watch, not at least because of good performances by Hawke and Ejogo.
Florence Foster Jenkins HD720p 7MB
Teaser from the UK for the recently mentioned biopic about Florence Foster Jenkins, the New York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice Florence (Meryl Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world it was hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give her first public concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, he realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew. Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson and Nina Arianda are also part of the cast. Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, The Grifters, Philomena).
Alice Through the Looking Glass HD720p 29MB HD1080p 57MB
A second trailer (or extended TV spot) for the sequel, this time directed by James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted). Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), Absolem (Alan Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Anne Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Helena Bonham Carter and Matt Lucas also return, new to the cast are Sacha Baron Cohen, Rhys Ifans, Andrew Scott, Toby Jones and Timothy Spall.
High-Rise HD720p 21MB
Full trailer from the UK for this retro-futuristic action drama loosely based on a novel from J.G. Ballard. It follows a young, respectable doctor, Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston), who moves into a new luxury apartment seeking anonymity. The building, a Brutalist concrete tower block, is inhabited by eccentric tenants who let off steam in endless rounds of themed parties and raucous, drink-and-drug-fuelled orgies. Sitting literally atop this insular society is the high-rise's architect and owner (Jeremy Irons) whose penthouse suite beggars description and has nothing to do with the rest of his design. As Robert settles into his new abode without ever really unpacking properly, the tower and its social complexities begin to take over his life. Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy and Sienna Guillory are also part of the cast. Directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Down Terrace, Kill List).
