Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales HD720p 39MB HD1080p 103MB
First trailer for yet another sequel. Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea ... including him. His only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas. Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom return. New to the cast are Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, and, I suspect to even out the former appearance of a Rolling Stone, Paul McCartney. Directed by Norwegian duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki, Max Manus, Bandidas).
The Captain isn't in the trailer, presumably still trying to sort out his many personal problems. But he is expected to be back by the movie's release next May.
Paterson HD720p 30MB
Trailer for the latest drama written and directed by Jim Jarmusch (Ghost Dog, Night on Earth, Only Lovers Left Alive) that quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details. Paterson (Adam Driver) works as a bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey — an ordinary working guy in a run-of-the-mill small city. His life is regulated clockwork: up around 6am, home by 6pm, walk the dog, drop by the local tavern, down a beer, chat with the bartender. His wife is a perfect match. Laura (Golshifteh Farahani) is as even-handed and -tempered as her husband. But there's more to these characters' internal lives. Paterson is a poet and Laura a repressed artistic gadfly. Each day before driving the streets, he scrawls a poem in his notebook, and each evening she welcomes him home with a new and quirky surprise.
Was among the best received movies this year in Cannes.
The 13th HD720p 22MB
Documentary whose title refers to the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, which reads "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States". The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by this doc. With a mixture of archival footage and testimony from an array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men. Directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma, Middle of Nowhere).
Doc opened the New York Film Festival last week where it was very well received. It will be available on Netflix starting October 7th.
The Odyssey - L'Odyssée HD720p 21MB
Biopic from France about the legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau. In 1948, Jacques-Yves Cousteau (Lambert Wilson), his wife (Audrey Tautou), and his two sons (Pierre Niney, Benjamin Lavernhe), live in paradise, in a beautiful house looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. But Cousteau dreams only adventure. Thanks to his invention, an autonomous diving suit that allows him to breathe underwater, he has discovered a new world. Henceforth, he will explore this world. And he's prepared to sacrifice everything to do so. Directed by Jérôme Salle (Largo Winch, Zulu, Anthony Zimmer).
A bit of an outrage the way Cousteau copies the look of Steve Zissou.
Bad Santa 2 HD720p 41MB
Second filthy redband trailer for the sequel in which, fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up once again with his angry little sidekick (Tony Cox) to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is "the kid" - chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), a 250-pound ray of sunshine, who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie's horror story of a mother (Kathy Bates). Christina Hendricks and Octavia Spencer are also part of the cast. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Mr. Popper's Penguins).
