Oscar nominations were released earlier this week. A full list with links at IMDb. Apple put together a page of the nominations with links to their trailer encodes as far as available.
Scripts for many films can be tracked down starting here.
A little spoilery, but some very funny "honest" posters of the nominated movies.
And somewhat related, the podcast series The Director's Cut that
ultramang drew my attention to a while ago in which a colleague interviews the director of a current movie. The most recent episodes are with many of the nominees. If you need assistance downloading soundcloud files.
Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot HD720p 59MB
Teaser trailer for this biographical drama with comedic elements about cartoonist John Callahan directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Last Days). After Portland slacker Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment – with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) – Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Jack Black, Beth Ditto, Udo Kier and Carrie Brownstein are also part of the cast.
Was mostly well received last week in Sundance.
Tomb Raider HD720p 91MB HD1080p 171MB
Second trailer for the franchise reboot. IMDb informs me that the film's plot will be based off the 2013 reboot of the video game series. Official summary so far reads: Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father (Dominic West) disappeared. Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Nick Frost and Kristin Scott-Thomas are also part of the cast. Directed by Norwegian Roar Uthaug (The Wave).
A Fantastic Woman - Una mujer fantástica HD720p 67MB
Drama that tells the story of Marina, a waitress and singer, and Orlando, an older man, who are in love and planning for the future. After Orlando suddenly falls ill and dies, Marina is forced to confront his family and society, and to fight again to show them who she is: complex, strong, forthright, fantastic. Directed by Sebastián Lelio (Gloria).
Chile's submission for Best Foreign Language Film, now nominated for an Oscar. A much more informative trailer version from one of the production companies: HD720p 20MB.
The Insult HD720p 75MB
Drama set in today's Beirut. An insult blown out of proportion finds Toni, a Lebanese Christian, and Yasser, a Palestinian refugee in court. From secret wounds to traumatic revelations, the media circus surrounding the case puts Lebanon through a social explosion, forcing Toni and Yasser to reconsider their lives and prejudices.
