Shirley HD720p 72MB
Psychological thriller drama in which renowned horror writer Shirley Jackson (Elisabeth Moss) is on the precipice of writing her masterpiece when the arrival of newlyweds (Odessa Young, Logan Lerman) upends her meticulous routine and heightens tensions in her already tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband (Michael Stuhlbarg). The middle-aged couple, prone to ruthless barbs and copious afternoon cocktails, begins to toy mercilessly with the naïve young couple at their door. Directed by Josephine Decker (Madeline's Madeline, Butter on the Latch, Thou Wast Mild and Lovely), who so far has mainly made more experimental films. This one seems to be more accessible, and was very well received at festivals.
Looks like another remarkable performance by Moss. Now available on streaming platforms.
The Vast of Night HD720p 31MB
Very well-made, low-budget, mystery drama set in the twilight of the 1950s, on one fateful night in New Mexico, a young, winsome switchboard operator Fay and charismatic radio DJ Everett discover a strange audio frequency that could change their small town and the future forever. Dropped phone calls, AM radio signals, secret reels of tape forgotten in a library, switchboards, crossed patchlines and an anonymous phone call lead Fay and Everett on a scavenger hunt toward the unknown.
Received very good reviews, it is streaming since last week on amazon.
Another Round - Druk HD1080p 26MB
Trailer for the latest (satirical) social drama directed by Thomas Vinterberg (The Celebration, Far from the Madding Crowd, The Hunt). There's a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday.
I hope it will shine a light oo everyday, "casual" alcoholism. It's part of the official selection for Cannes, even though though the festival won't really be taking place this year.
Judy & Punch HD720p 80MB
US trailer for this darkly comic fable – part revenge story, part fantasy epic. In the town of Seaside (nowhere near the sea), husband and wife puppeteers Punch and Judy stage their shows for rowdy, mob-minded locals for whom a great day out is usually the public stoning of a fellow citizen (invariably a woman accused of witchcraft or some other spurious crime). Though Punch (Damon Herriman) proclaims himself the greatest puppeteer and his beating stick rouses cheers from the crowd, it’s Judy (Mia Wasikowska) who breathes artistry into the otherwise crude show. But during a drinking bout and a tragic mishap with their child, the hot-tempered Punch brutally beats Judy, leaving her for dead in the woods. Taken in by Doctor Goodtime and a society of outcasts, Judy plots her revenge.
Makes its point a lot less powerful than I was hoping for. Already released in much of the rest of the world, it's now available for streaming in the US.

Walking on Water HD720p 101MB
Christo passed away this week, so I want to round up the entry by mentioning two documentaries about his work that I can recommend.
The Gates, a doc about a project from 2005, for which he and his wife Jeanne-Claude installed 7,503 vinyl "gates" along 23 miles (37 km) of pathways in Central Park in New York City. From each gate hung a panel of deep saffron-colored nylon fabric. (For which for some reason there doesn't seem to exist a trailer on YouTube.)
And more recently, Walking on Water, about The Floating Piers. It consisted of 70,000 square meters of yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system of 226,000 high-density polyethylene cubes installed in 2016 at Lake Iseo near Brescia, Italy. The fabric created a walkable surface between Sulzano, Monte Isola and the island of San Paolo.
