How to Make a Killing     HD1080p 54MB
Crime comedy about blue-collar Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell), disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, who will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way. Margaret Qualley, Ed Harris, Topher Grace, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp and Zach Woods are also part of the cast. Written and directed by John Patton Ford (Emily the Criminal).
Another opportunity to measure the star power of Glen Powell.

Dead Man's Wire     HD720p 36MB
Crime drama based on real events, directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Last Days). On February 8, 1977, Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård) entered the office of Richard Hall (Dacre Montgomery), president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and took him hostage with a sawed-off shotgun wired with a "dead man's wire" from the trigger to Tony's own neck. As the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero, and as the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance and blurred justice. Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha'la and Al Pacino are also part of the cast.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping     HD720p 32MB
Very early teaser trailer for another franchise extension, again directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Constantine, I Am Legend), to be in theatres November next year. It will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Cast members include Joseph Zada, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Whitney Peak and Kelvin Harrison Jr.
I don't care about this franchise, but I'm curious how much fun acting heavyweights like Fiennes, Plemons and Close will have with their roles.

Goodbye June     HD1080p 18MB
Family drama set just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother’s (Helen Mirren) health thrusts four adult siblings (Kate Winslet, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn) and their exasperating father (Timothy Spall) into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love. Marks the directorial debut of Winslet.
After a brief theatrical run will start streaming on Netflix on Christmas Eve.

Hoppers     HD720p 35MB
Full trailer for the latest animated Pixar movie, to be in theatres next March. Scientists have discovered how to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals! Using the new technology, Mabel (Piper Curda) will uncover mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined. Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm will also lend their voices.

OK, Hoppers looks ridiculous. I'd totally watch it. I'll probably have to drive to a theater 45 minutes away to do so. Zootopia 2 has zero English screenings here so far, that privilege is reserved for Wicked part two. I don't want to see Wicked.

Oh it's playing, just not in English. It's playing several times a day in French. Due to language/culture politics, I'm lucky if they show one screening of a movie I want to see at the local multiplex in English in an entire week. Wicked is unusual in that there are multiple showings per week in English, but I still don't want to see it.

Yes, and here "identity" = the French language, with provincial laws that dictate that French words on signs have to be bigger than English words and French translations of movies being projected must outnumber English versions. Since the multiplex near me is in a small town, nearly every showing of a movie is in French so that other movie houses in the same chain can show more movies in English. So the multiplex here picks and chooses what gets to be in English and how often. It varies a lot. I think the Predator movie only played once in English. The Wicked movie played every day in English, a few times a day. Wicked's English run is over, now it's a horror movie getting some screen time in English. Take a look at the schedule here. Now we do live in an island of francophone culture in a sea of anglophone media, products and technology, so yes, French should be encouraged, but the cheap rules passed by the government make us look like a joke. The latest proposal is to ban praying in public. The only people who have to drop and pray wherever they may be at certain times of day (that I can think of) are devout Muslims. That anti-praying law is rather racist. Last summer at work (outside) I saw one of the clients praying. He was hiding behind a bush to do so!

Yes, there are a few political parties that are nominally dedicated to separating Quebec from Canada. They talk about it and frequently get elected to be the provincial political party with a majority. There have been two referendums, one 30 years ago and one 50 years ago, no separation has happened and no further referendums seem likely. Further west, the province of Alberta also has people who also grumble and agitate for separation but haven't had a referendum. Tribalism is a sport anyone can play. 9_9

When I think Belgium, a village Gaulois comes to mind. Of course there is fighting! Every morning, at the market. 8^D Well, here, the French above all else tendencies of the governing parties is tempered by the shame and scorn heaped on the silly cheap blanket rules they roll out.

I shall probably get around to the Hunger Games at some point. Probably when the kids are old enough.

I could see me enjoying How To Make a Killing, if it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Goodye June looks very touching.

Hoppers looks like great fun!
