Divergent HD480p 10MB HD720p 45MB
First short trailer for this action thriller set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late. Also part of the cast are Kate Winslet, Theo James, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney and Ashley Judd. Directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist, The Lucky Ones).
Stories like that always get me interested. Though I fear the main target audience will be the "young adult" market. Also, a 2 minute featurette in which the actors explain the story: HD720p 39MB.
Dallas Buyers Club HD480p 22MB HD720p 100MB
Drama about real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughy), whose free-wheeling life was overturned in 1985 when he was diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. These were the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and the U.S. was divided over how to combat the virus. Ron, now shunned and ostracized by many of his old friends, and bereft of government-approved effective medicines, decided to take matters in his own hands, tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal and established a hugely successful "buyers' club." Also part of the cast are Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto (playing a rather convincing looking drag queen), Denis O'Hare, Steve Zahn and Dallas Roberts. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (The Young Victoria, C.R.A.Z.Y.).
Another impressive performance by McConaughey. Must be the influence of his wife.
Vampire Academy HD480p 9MB HD720p 17MB
Teaser for the big-screen adaptation of the book series written by Richelle Mead. It tells the legend of two 17-year-old girls who attend a hidden boarding school for Moroi (mortal, peaceful Vampires) and Dhampirs (half-vampire/half-human guardians). Rose, a rebellious Guardian-in-training and her best friend, Lissa - a royal vampire Princess - have been on the run when they are captured and returned to St.Vladamirs Academy, the very place where they believe their lives may be in most jeopardy. Thrust back into the perils of Moroi Society and high school, Lissa struggles to reclaim her status while Rose trains with her mentor and love-interest to guarantee her place as Lissa's guardian. Gabriel Byrne, Sarah Hyland, Joely Richardson, Sami Gayle and Olga Kurylenko. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Spiderwick Chronicles).
I'm surprised there are still series with vampires left that haven't yet been turned into movies.
Sparrows Dance HD480p 10MB HD720p 18MB
Intimate, comedic drama in the form of a two-hander. When stage fright gets the best of her, a former actress (Marin Ireland) stops leaving her apartment, crippled by fear of the outside world. Living off delivery food and residuals from her acting career, she spends her days watching bad TV and spying on the city from her window. But when her toilet overflows and a kind, compassionate plumber (Paul Sparks) shows up, she reluctantly allows him into her refuge. A tender, comical love story,
Trailer hasn't me entirely convinced, but it got some very good reviews. Now available in the US on various on demand platforms and very limited theatrically.
The Book Thief HD480p 18MB HD720p 88MB
Book adaptation that tells the inspirational story of a spirited and courageous young girl who transforms the lives of everyone around her when she is sent to live with a new family (Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson) in World War II Germany. Things change when a Jewish fist-fighter starts to hide in her home during the escalation of World War II. Directed by Brian Percival who was responsible for many episodes of "Downton Abbey" and the "North & South" mini-series.
Certainly a noble effort, but has a bit of a made-for-TV feeling to it.
