First teaser for the next Star Trek movie that will again be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III) that does a very good job to tease, it will be in theatres next May. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror (Benedict Cumberbatch, speaking in a bit of a Batman voice) from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. The whole crew returns, new to the cast, besides Cumbersnatch, are Alice Eve and Peter Weller.
The title sounds a bit like the recent Batman trilogy. Speaking of, just like for the Dark Knight movies, there will be a nine-minute prologue prior to IMAX screenings of The Hobbit. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the poster concept also reminds me of something. But I know what some elements the score in the teaser remind me of ... Inception. After an ill-timed and very public marriage proposal, fiercely independent Sarah (Lizzy Caplan) breaks up with her overeager boyfriend Kevin (Geoffrey Arend). Sarah turns to her sister Beth (Alison Brie) for support, but Beth is too busy obsessing over the details of her own wedding to Kevin's band mate (Martin Starr). When Sarah suddenly finds herself caught up in an intense rebound romance (Mark Webber), she is forced to examine her own fears of commitment and vulnerability.

You can't say Shane Carruth rushed to make his second movie after his fascinating low-budget time-travel movie Primer nine years ago. But here's a first, short teaser for the sci-fi, romantic thriller that will premiere in January in Sundance. Judging from the footage and the summary so far, it will be again (thankfully) not easy to digest. It reads: A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.
This gives me the opportunity to link to an attempt to provide timelines to the plot of Primer. One day I'll watch it again and try to see if it fits.
