Chappie HD720p 39MB
First trailer for the latest sci-fi action thriller directed by Neill Blomkamp (Elysium, District 9). Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings - some good, some bad - and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot (voiced by Sharlto Copley). The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever. Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Jose Pablo Cantillo are also part of the cast.
Seems to sort of take place in the same "universe" as Blomkamp's previous two movie, which is fine by me.
Minions HD720p 53MB
First trailer for the Despicable Me spin-off. It begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, "Minions" evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters - from T. rex to Napoleon - the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin (voiced by co-director Pierre Coffin) has a plan, and he - alongside teenage rebel Stuart (also voiced by co-director Pierre Coffin) and lovable little Bob (voiced by you know who) - ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.
I'm still not sure if I will be able to bear them for a whole movie. But there a number of funny scenes in the trailer. Also, the list of the 20 animated features trying to get nominated in the upcoming Oscar race. I think it contains about every single animated movie released this year.
A Most Violent Year HD480p 18MB HD720p 83MB
Full trailer for a crime thriller written and directed by J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All is Lost). It is set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city's history, and centered on a the lives of an immigrant (Oscar Isaac) and his family (Jessica Chastain) trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built. David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola and Albert Brooks are also part of the cast.
So far doesn't look as original as Chandor's first two movies, but at this point I'm interested in everything he does. I re-watched Margin Call just last weekend.
National Gallery HD720p 29MB
Three hour documentary that takes the audience behind the scenes of a London institution, on a journey to the heart of a museum inhabited by masterpieces of Western art from the Middle Ages to the 19th Century. It's the portrait of a place, its way of working and relations with the world, its staff and public, and its paintings. In a perpetual and dizzying game of mirrors, film watches painting watches film. Directed by Frederick Wiseman who by now is making documentaries for almost 50 years.
Now in limited release in the US.
McFarland, USA HD720p 52MB
Inspirational sports movie from Disney that seems to follow an all too familiar script. Of course, it's inspired by a true story, it follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California's farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys' exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Maria Bello plays his wife. Directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider, North Country, The Vintner's Luck).
They could've at least chosen a different name for Costner's character. Then again.
