Free Fire UK HD720p 15MB US HD720p 32MB
Redband trailers for this comedic action thriller set in Boston in 1978 in which a woman (Academy Award Winner Brie Larson) has brokered a gun deal in an abandoned warehouse between IRA men (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley) and two gun dealers (Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer). The tension is thicker than the Irish brogues. But everything seems to be going smoothly - until shots are fired during the handover and pandemonium ensues. Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Jack Reynor and Babou Ceesay are also part of the cast. Directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, High-Rise, Kill List).
Looks like a lot of fun. If you were bored by the two hours in the recent Tarantino movies until the real action began, this one's for you. The two trailers are basically the same, the UK one is shorter which I consider a plus since it reveals less.
Live by Night HD720p 48MB HD1080p 94MB
Crime drama set in the roaring '20s, when Prohibition hasn't stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules, and he breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning, Chris Cooper, Brendan Gleeson and Chris Messina are also part of the cast. Also directed by Affleck (Argo, Gone Baby Gone, The Town), and adapted by him from a novel by Dennis Lehane.
Ticks off some of the awards boxes.
Gold HD720p 47MB
Comedic drama that tells the epic tale of a modern day prospector (Matthew McConaughey) desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist (Edgar RamÃrez) and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street. You may have guessed it, it is inspired by a true story. Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell and Corey Stoll are also part of the cast. Directed by Stephen Gaghan (Syriana).
McConaughey in good form. Hearing Styx's "Renegade" is always welcome.
King of the Belgians HD720p 22MB
Very funny looking mockumentary in which King Nicolas III of Belgium is a lonely soul who has the distinct feeling he's living the wrong life. He embarks on a state visit to Istanbul with a British filmmaker, who has been commissioned by the Palace to shoot a documentary intended to polish the monarch's rather dull image. The news breaks that Wallonia, Belgium's southern half, has declared its independence. The King, bursting with purpose, must return home at once to save his kingdom. As they rally to depart, a solar storm strikes the earth causing communications to collapse and airspace to shut down. Which means he has to drive home through the Balkans.
Voyage of Time Pitt HD720p 13MB Blanchett HD720p 11MB
Documentary written and directed by Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, The New World, The Thin Red Line) which he has been trying to finish for a couple of decades (he seems to have used some footage in The Tree of Life). It's an exploration into our planetary past and a search for humanity's place in the future. Humming with the energy of nature itself, the film melds innovative special effects with awe-inspiring footage from around the globe and beyond, in search of what lasts, what endures, over time.
Apparently, there will be a 90 minutes version with a voiceover by Cate Blanchett, and a half as long IMAX version narrated by Brad Pitt. According to festival reviews, the visuals are truly stunning, though being able to watch it without any narration at all wouldn't be a bad thing either.
