Zombieland: Double Tap     HD720p 99MB
Trailer for the sequel, in which, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, our four slayers (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone) must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family. Cast additions are Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch. Again directed by Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad, Venom, 30 Minutes or Less).

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood     HD720p 85MB
Trailer for a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks) and journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys). After a jaded magazine writer is assigned a profile of Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor. Susan Kelechi Watson and Chris Cooper are also part of the cast. Directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, The Diary of a Teenage Girl).
As much as I appreciate a positive story in these dark and trying times, this looks like a little too much. In case someone missed it, there recently has been a very well received doc about Fred Rogers.

Gemini Man     HD720p 94MB
Second trailer for an "innovative" action-thriller about an elite assassin (Will Smith), who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative (Will Smith) that seemingly can predict his every move. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong are also part of the cast. Directed by Ang Lee (Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Hulk, Sense and Sensibility). It lists six screenwriters and is co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Harriet     HD720p 103MB
Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter Harriet Tubman (Cynthia Erivo). I tells the extraordinary tale of her escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles, Clarke Peters. Directed by Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me).
Unsurprisingly, the current US regime is still so deeply scared of a woman of colour, that it is afraid to put her portrait on the twenty dollar bill.

The Mountain     HD720p 80MB
Visually very interesting looking drama, set against the 1950’s "golden age" of American male supremacy. An introverted young photographer (Tye Sheridan) joins a renowned lobotomist (Jeff Goldblum) on a tour to promote the doctor’s recently-debunked procedure. As he increasingly identifies with the asylum’s patients, he becomes enamored with a rebellious young woman (Hannah Gross) and lost in the burgeoning New Age movement of the west. Denis Lavant and Udo Kier are also part of the cast.
Probably closer to being an experimental movie than following a traditional narrative. But it looks somewhat fascinating. Now in limited release in the US. A different trailer from France: HD720p 6MB

I need to see the doc on Mr. Rogers. I just adore him. I watched his show when I was little and I still find him very soothing. His attitudes towards kids were revolutionary for the time. Imagine being told you are enough just how you are! And he didn't shy away from difficult topics.

It doesn't surprise me that perhaps he is a very US-centric TV personality. Basically, he had a show on public television in the late 60s onward, aimed at small children. His show was revolutionary because it was really the first/only show aimed at talking to kids about real-life issues in a way they could process. Not talking down to them, and not dismissing things that kids are scared of/worried about, etc. So he would tell kids that they are worthwhile just the way they are. He would talk about how sometimes things make you angry or sad and that's ok. He talked about what divorce is. He soaked his feet in a tub with a black man (which was huge at the time). He featured black visitors and actors at a time when that wasn't done. He used make-believe as a way for helping kids to understand things like war (Vietnam, the first season). He had a soothing, gentle tone. He truly was like nothing else.

I watched his show when I was little and I loved it. As an adult, I find him very soothing and reassuring. You can still watch his show on Amazon Prime.

He was also a person who was the same in his real life as he was on TV. There are numerous stories of him taking extra time to talk with people who would approach him. Here's one such story that was very touching:

He is a big deal culturally here because so many of us grew up with him. I still look to him as a positive influence even as an adult. :-)

The documentary and the article the new movie is based on are both incredibly touching. I remember him from my own youth, and I didn't know how many waves he had made even before I was born.

Suffice it to say, while it looks syrupy, the man was the genuine article and somehow managed to be as genuinely compassionate he is depicted. And Tom Hanks is pretty much the only person in Hollywood who could even come close to reaching that level of genuine compassion and not come off sarcastic.

I just watched it this weekend and it was interesting to view his career through adult eyes as I mostly watched him as a small child. He really was the real deal. What a compassionate, thoughtful man. He made a big difference in many kids' lives and I'm sorry he is gone so soon.

The new Zombieland looks like it could be fun. The first one was more entertaining than I was expecting it to be, so there's a the possibility this one might be fun as well.

Just for reference, while the Mr. Rogers movie is based on the article by Tom Junod, the movie has changed his name to Lloyd Vogel because I guess Hollywood?

Gemini Man has big enough names that I'm curious about it. Visually it's pretty compelling, but that's standard Ang Lee fare. Also standard Ang Lee fare is character examination but we'll see how that works with Bruckheimer in the mix.

Harriet looks pretty cool, and all the names are compelling.

The Mountain looks like a trip, and I hear Goldblum delivers a fantastic performance, but I don't think I'll be able to watch it without my hand blocking my face in anything dealing with lobotomies.
