Political drama based on real events. It follows the Tehran-born Bahari (Gael García Bernal), a journalist with Canadian citizenship. In June 2009, he returned to Iran to interview Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who was the challenger to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As Mousavi's supporters protested Ahmadinejad's victory declaration hours before the polls closed, he endured personal risk by sending footage of the street riots to the BBC. Bahari was arrested by police, led by a man identifying himself as "Rosewater" (Kim Bodnia), who tortured and interrogated him over the next 118 days. The noteworthy thing is that this marks the directorial debut of popular TV show host Jon Stewart.
It's a small production, and festival reviews this week were mostly favourable. Though I do have to point out that, while both also get favourably mentioned in the reviews, the two leads are played by a Mexican and a Dane.

When a shaving accident lands her in the hospital, she sees it as a way to reconcile her parents and forms an unlikely bond with her male nurse.
Big screen adaptation of a book by Charlotte Roche that was an unexpected, international bestseller a few years ago. It was the most popular book in Germany in 2008, a pretty remarkable fact given its topic. While the movie is certainly not for everyone (it covers all bodily fluids that exist), it marks a welcome departure from the way Hollywood portrays growing up and sexuality. Now in limited release in the US.

Light, musical, coming-of-age drama from the UK. Eve (Emily Browning) is a catastrophe - low on self-esteem but high on fantasy, especially when it comes to music. Over the course of one Glasgow summer, she meets two similarly rootless souls: posh Cass (Hannah Murray) and fastidious James (Olly Alexander), and together they decide there's only one thing to do: form a pop group. Written, directed and with original songs by Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of the group Belle and Sebastian.
The term twee comes to mind. Now in limited release on various platforms in the US.

Pasolini (Willem Dafoe) is the symbol of an art that's fighting against the power. His writings are scandalous, his films are persecuted by the censors, many people love him and many hate him. The day of his death, Pasolini spends his last hours with his beloved mother and later on with his dearest friends, and finally goes out into the night in his Alfa Romeo in search of adventure in the eternal city.
Mainly for fans of Ferrara, Pasolini, Dafoe or a combination thereof.
