The Lobster HD720p 21MB
UK trailer for the latest amusing, absurdist movie from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps). It's an unconventional love story set in the very near future, where society demands that we live as couples. Single people are rounded up and sent to a seaside compound - part resort and part minimum-security prison - where they are given a finite number of days to find a match. If they don’t succeed, they will be “altered” and turned into animals. The recently divorced David (Colin Farrell) arrives at The Hotel with his brother, now a dog; in the event of failure, he has chosen to become a lobster because they live so long. When David falls in love, he's up against a new set of rules established by another, rebellious order: for romantics, there's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Rachel Weisz, Olivia Colman, John C. Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Ariane Labed and Ashley Jensen are also part of the cast.
Looks much funnier than I thought it would.
Carol HD720p 28MB
Full trailer from the UK for this romantic drama based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith directed by Todd Haynes (Far from Heaven, I'm Not There, Velvet Goldmine). In New York in the early 1950s, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), is working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a failing marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens. When Carol's involvement with Therese comes to light, her husband (Kyle Chandler) retaliates by challenging her competence as a mother. The two women take refuge on the road, leaving their respective lives behind. Sarah Paulson is also part of the cast.
Maybe a tad melodramatic. A tad.
Beasts of No Nation HD720p 25MB
War drama set in an unnamed African nation in which young Agu's world of happiness and security is upended suddenly in the maelstrom of an unnamed civil war. After seeing his family killed at the hands of a military junta that has overthrown the country's government, Agu (Abraham Attah) flees his village. Lost in the jungle and nearing starvation, he is captured by a rebel faction led by the charismatic but lethal Commandant (Idris Elba). Under Commandant's control, Agu is forced to fight battles and commit acts beyond his comprehension. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (Jane Eyre, True Detective, Sin nombre).
First major movie that will be distributed by Netflix, to be simultaneously released in theatres and available to their subscribers.
James White HD720p 11MB
Drama in which a troubled twentysomething (Christopher Abbott) is trying to stay afloat in a frenzied New York City. As he retreats further into a hedonistic lifestyle, his mother's (Cynthia Nixon) battle with a serious illness faces a series of setbacks that force him to assume more responsibility. With the pressure on him mounting, he must find new reserves of strength or risk imploding completely. Ron Livingston is also part of the cast.
Was very well received in Sundance, especially because of the performances by Abbott and Nixon. Though it's not an easy watch.
Pay the Ghost HD720p 43MB
Time for our quarterly check of the state of Nicolas Cage's career. This time courtesy of a trailer for a supernatural horror movie. One year after his young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, Mike Lawford (Cage) is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can't explain. Together with his estranged wife (Sarah Wayne Callies), he will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery and find their son - and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past. Every Halloween a vengeful ghost surfaces to abduct children. Directed by Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn, Body of Evidence, Christiane F.). Extra scares for German viewers are provided by the surprise appearance of Veronica Ferres.
