The Big Short HD720p 48MB
Drama with comedic elements based on the true story told in the book by Michael Lewis (Moneyball, The Blind Side, Liar's Poker). When four outsiders (Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt) saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Melissa Leo, Max Greenfield and Marisa Tomei are also part of the cast. Interestingly, directed by Adam McKay (The Other Guys, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers).
Oh my, look at the hair. More seriously, since none of the banksters went to jail, there will be another version of this story rather sooner than later. But why not watch an entertaining movie until then.
Demolition HD720p 42MB
Drama about an investment banker Davis Mitchell (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is sleepwalking through a life of easy success when a horrible car crash wakes him with a start. His lovely wife (Heather Lind) is killed. Friends and family gather round to console him, but he seems to feel nothing. Seemingly unfazed by his loss yet preoccupied by his inability to retrieve a candy bar from a hospital vending machine, he takes to writing absurdly protracted - and increasingly confessional - letters of complaint to the Champion Vending Machine Company. Those letters are answered by Karen (Naomi Watts), a mysterious, eccentric Champion employee. Chris Cooper plays his father-in-law. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, The Young Victoria, Wild).
Trailer doesn't really show that Watts has a supporting role. Reviews from Toronto were very mixed, but Gyllenhaal gives another interesting performance. This time even without a radical physical transformation.
I Smile Back HD720p 13MB
Very intense drama about Laney (Sarah Silverman), an attractive, intelligent suburban wife and devoted mother of two adorable children. She has the perfect husband (Josh Charles) who plays basketball with the kids in the driveway, a pristine house, and a shiny SUV for carting the children to their next activity. However, just beneath the facade lie depression and disillusionment that send her careening into a secret world of reckless compulsion. Between dropping the kids off at school and doing the shopping, she takes cocaine, amphetamine, and Ambien, and she regularly has sex with her husband's best friend. When she can no longer hide her addictions, she agrees to go into rehab, but her too-brief stay isn't enough to alter a lifetime of self-medication or to heal the deep psychic wound underlying her wild behaviour.
Movie as a whole apparently isn't entirely successful, but Silverman again provides proof that comedians are often capable of giving the most intense dramatic performances.
The 5th Wave Tlr1 HD720p 29MB Tlr2 HD720p 37MB
Big screen adaptation of a young adult sci-fi novel by Rick Yancey. Set in the present day, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, 16-year-old Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, she meets a young man who may become her final hope. Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff, Maria Bello and Ron Livingston are also part of the cast. Directed by J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed).
Since this is set for a January release it doesn't seem particularly likely this will be expanded into a trilogy. Two trailer versions to choose from.
Trash HD720p 19MB
US trailer version for this thriller drama about two trash-picking boys from Rio's slums who find a wallet in amongst the daily detritus of their local dump. Little do they imagine that their lives are about to change forever. But when the local police show up, offering a handsome reward for the wallet's return, the boys realise that what they've found must be important. Teaming up with a friend, the trio begins an extraordinary adventure as they try to hang onto the wallet. Along the way, the boys will have to figure out friend from foe, as they piece together the story of the wallet's owner (Wagner Moura) and realise they can't trust the police. But a pair of American missionaries (Martin Sheen, Rooney Mara) working in their favela might just have the power to knock on the right doors. Directed by Stephen Daldry (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Billy Elliot, The Hours).
This is actually better than expected. The movie for the most part focuses on the kids and their perspective, the international cast members just have supporting roles. An earlier, better trailer from the UK: HD720p 33MB.
